About PSA

Having realized the need to develop and promote sports event along with socio-economic development activities, Phuentsholing Sports Association was formed in the early 1961 under the patron of HRH Namgyel Wangchuck and Late Dasho Ugyen Dorji and it may perhaps be the first ever formed Sports Association in Bhutan but without any officially established office until 2012.

The objective was to promote and organize sports activities amongst the youth and sports loving people to entertain the general public at large in Phuentsholing region. PSA Sports Activities are oriented for social service benefit and non-profit making Association officially established its office with legal status recognization under CSOA Act, 2007 with the issue of certificate of registration on 1st August, 2011 declared as Public Benefit Organization.

Subsequently, PSA also got affiliated under BOC on 31st May, 2015 as PSA.

The football ground was initially developed by the public of Phuentsholing and named PSA football ground under the control of Dzongkhag office. After establishment of the thromde office, the football ground and archery bacho area came under the control of thromde office. The thromde office with the ADB fund assistance developed the football ground into stadium type with the sitting gallery capacity of 5000 spectators in the year 2008 and 2009. With the legal status recognisation of PSA by the CSOA under the CSOA Act 2007 issued the certificate of registration of membership to PSA on 1st August, 2011 as "Public Benefit Organization". The thromde office then officially handed over the football stadium and archery bacho facilities to PSA on 17th August, 2011 for operation and maintenance of the facilities to promote sport activities. The ownership right is with the Thromde office but not subjected to any rental charges as PSA being public benefit organization. The change of ownership along with land user right certificate from National Land Commission has been successfully completed on 5th August, 2020.

PSA is the registered member of CSOA with the issue of Certificate of Registration by the CSOA on 1st August, 2011 as "Public Benefit Organization". Subsequently, with the Institutional grant of Nu. 2,00,000/- for the establishment of PSA office received from the CSOFF on 14th February, 2012. PSA has established its Secretariat Office which was inaugurated on 10th April, 2012 by Dasho Thrompon of Phuentsholing Thromde and President of PSA.

As per the Royal Govt. Tax exemption rules and regulations, any donation, contribution, membership fee and sponsorship contributed towards the legally recognized and registered sports association for the development and promotion of sports activities are exempted from the taxation. PSA will closely work with the Department of Revenue and Custom for tax exemption certificate and make available to the respective members, sponsors and donors.

PSA was awarded with the Certificate of Affiliation by Bhutan Olympic Committee(BOC) on 31st May, 2015 as a member of Sports Association.
